Case

Methanex Acquisition of OCI Global

Analysis Group was retained on behalf of Methanex Corporation, a large Canadian producer and distributor of methanol, in connection with its planned acquisition of OCI Global’s international methanol business operations in the US and the Netherlands.

An Analysis Group team led by Managing Principal Rebecca Kirk Fair, Vice Presidents David Toniatti and Joshua White, and Managers Cecilia Caliandro, Kristina Komissarova, Jason Ma, and Zsolt Udvari conducted economic analyses and an antitrust evaluation in support of Methanex’s submissions to regulators in the US, UK, and EU. The team examined production capacity, global pricing, transportation costs, and market entry and exit to address questions related to potential market concentration and competitive effects resulting from the planned acquisition.

Following an investigation by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the merger was cleared in the US without any divestitures. The deal was also cleared without remedies at Phase 1 by DG Comp and closed in June 2025.
